Second generation Digital Breast Tomosynthesis is a revolutionary X-ray mammographic technique, which has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and internationally used as a screening and diagnostic tool for detection of breast cancer.
Tomosynthesis is essentially a 3D mammogram - Instead of taking only one image per breast compression in traditional 2D mammogram, Tomosynthesis takes a series of X-ray images and generates multiple slices of the breast in 1-mm thickness in less than 4 seconds. By removing the overlapping tissue, it significantly improves the ability to detected breast cancer while reducing the false-positive rate.
